Johnathan Vencatachellum enters his third season as an assistant coach with the Charlotte 49ers men's tennis program.
Vencatachellum ended a four-year tennis career with the Niners in the spring of 2006, with a brilliant doubles career. He was 44-29 in his career playing doubles at Charlotte, including a career-best 17 doubles wins in 2005. He also recorded 30 singles victories.
The Mahebourg, Mauritius native is currently working on a postgraduate degree at Charlotte, while assisting with the men's program at Charlotte.
At Charlotte: 2004-05 - Won a career-high 17 doubles matches teaming with Marlo Santoso. Finished the season with six straight doubles wins. Had an eight match winning streak early in the season. Defeated teams from Duke, South Carolina, Winthrop, Marquette, UNC Greensboro, The Citadel, Southern Miss and East Carolina. Won a career-high nine singles matches mostly at number five singles. Defeated Florian Tremmel of ECU in the C-USA Tournament.
2003-04 - Saw action in 13 singles matches mostly at number five singles. Teamed with several partners in doubles. Defeated doubles teams from James Madison, Radford, Davidson, Campbell and Gardner-Webb.
2002-03 - Saw action in 13 matches, seeing most of his action at number six singles. Posted singles wins over players from Elon, Marquette, East Carolina, and Saint Louis. Teamed with Stuart Lynas at number three doubles. At the Groot Memorial Tournament, they advanced to the semifinals of the Flight B doubles.
At Heritage: Went to Heritage High School in Hilton Head, S.C. Won junior national championship eight times in his native Mauritius. Played in the Davis Cup for Mauritius and went 3-2. Won singles and doubles matches against Azerbaijan and Cameroon in Davis Cup. Played in African Championships from 1997 through 1999.
