Aurora, Colo. - US Amateur Public Links Scoring
Charlotte 49ers rising junior golfer Corey Nagy (Charlotte, N.C./Vance H.S.) is once again in contention at the US Amateur Public Links Championship. Nagy, who reached the semifinals of the event in 2007, advanced through stroke play and has won his first round match.
With 155 players competing at Murphy Creek G.C. in Aurora, Colo., Nagy finished tied for fourth at -5, 137 in qualifying stroke play to advance to the 64-player match play competition.
He won his first round match, 4 & 2, over David Ludlow of Burton, Ohio, Wednesday and will face Patrick Lundy of Little River, S.C., Thursday (7:54 a.m. tee time). The winner of the event gets an invitation to The Masters.
Nagy is a two-time honorable mention GCAA all-America for the 49ers, who has been a key to the 49ers back-to-back top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championship in 2007 (3rd-place) and 2008 (8th-place). He was second on the team with a 72.14 stroke average for the 49ers in 2007-08 and owns a 72.17 career stroke average -- on pace to set a new school career record.
The 2008 Atlantc 10 individual runner-up, Nagy was the 2007 A-10 Rookie of the Year and a 2007 GCAA Freshman all-America. A two-time all-Atlantic 10 choice, Nagy picked up his first collegiate victory at the 2007-08 Scenic City Invitational.
