Women's Cross Country Defeats Davidson To Win Charlotte Relay

The men's team finished second in the relays

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's cross country team placed two teams in the top three en route to defeating Davidson, 10-11, in the Charlotte Relay at McAlpine Park. The Charlotte men's cross country team had three teams finish in the top five to finish second. Virginia Intermont nabbed the top two spots to grab the men's title, 11-12, over Charlotte. While, Davidson finished a distant third in the men's race. "Our men's side looked very good," Charlotte cross country coach Brad Herbster said. "Our top runner Ed Schlichter ran a 15:20 and our top seven runners were all within 30 seconds of Ed. That was great. I was a little disappointed that we finished second. We also had an impressive performance by our women's team. Liz Smith, Jane Daniels, Tsehaye Dagnachew and Amelia Slagle all ran strong races." The relay team of Smith and Daniels finished second with a time of 21:32.1. While, the team of Slagle and Dagnachew finished third with a time of 21:36.2. The men's top three teams finished third, fourth and fifth. The team of Schlichter and Jamil Muhaimen finished third with a time of 31:00.4. The team of Ryan Jank and Russell Slade finished fourth at 31:2i6.3. While the team of Ken Simeone and Nick Sunseri finished fifth at 31:31.5. The relay event pairs teammates, with both runners completing one leg (Men: 5K; Women: 3K) of the course.
